Silver (Ag) Metal

Silver (Ag) is a relatively soft, shiny metal that is more ductile and malleable than any other metal, excluding gold. Silver is the best reflector of visible light known (until air causes it to tarnish). In pure air and water, it is stable. Silver has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of all metals. Silver has antibacterial properties.

Purity: 99.5% to 99.999%
Detailed Particle Size Information

Silver Powder 81-451 is a high purity, high density, spherical silver powder manufactured by atomization. 81-451 is screened to –325/+450 mesh resulting in a particle size ranging from 32 to 45 microns.

Silver Powder 81-637 is a high purity, high density, spherical silver powder manufactured by atomization. 81-637 is screened to –450/+635 mesh resulting in a particle size range from 20 to 45 microns.

Silpowder ® 305 is a high-purity, highly dispersed submicron, chemically precipitated silver powder. D50 = 1 micron.

Silsphere TM 586 is a high-purity, chemically precipitated silver powder characterized by a spherical morphology and a narrow particle size distribution. Average Particle Diameter(μm) 1.0 – 2.5 microns.

Silsphere TM 572, 573, and 574 are high-purity, chemically precipitated powders characterized by a spherical morphology and a narrow particle size distribution. The 57X series have higher tap densities than the 51X series. Average Particle Diameter(μm) SP 572 = 0.4 – 1.6 microns, SP 573 = 0.5 – 2.5 microns, SP 574 = 1.0 – 3.0 microns

Typical Applications

Silver has many uses in its elemental form or as sterling silver, which is 92.5% Silver (the rest is copper or another metal). Jewelry, silverware, electronic equipment, electrical contacts, dental alloy fillings, photographic processing, batteries, and solder/brazing alloys. Silver threads are woven into the fingertips of gloves to work with touchscreen phones, and silver nanoparticles are used in clothing to prevent bacteria from digesting sweat. Other uses include as a catalyst in oxidation reactions and high-capacity zinc long-life batteries.
