Scandium (Sc) Metal
Scandium (Sc) is a silvery metal that tarnishes in the air, burns easily, and reacts with water. It is relatively soft and chemically similar to other rare earth metals and, while distributed widely, is not abundant. Scandium is lightweight, and its high melting point suggests applications within the aircraft industry.

Typical Applications
Scandium is mainly used for research purposes; however, an aluminum-scandium alloy has been used in aircraft manufacturing, high-end bicycle frames, tent poles, and baseball bats.
Scandium compounds are used in mercury vapor lamps.
