Nickel (Ni) Metal
Nickel (Ni) is used in many industrial and consumer products. Its primary use is in making alloys, including stainless steel. It is used in the plating of other metals as well. Both of these uses are to enhance corrosion resistance. Nickel is used in rechargeable batteries used in hybrid vehicles. It also is used in coins; the U.S. five-cent piece contains 25% nickel. It is used in glass manufacturing and imparts a green hue. Nickel is used in powder metallurgy applications such as the metal injection molding industry, welding electrodes, sintered magnets, and friction materials.
