Manganin Alloy
Manganin is a trademarked name for an alloy of typically 86% copper, 12% manganese, and 2% nickel. It has a very low-temperature coefficient of the resistance value, and its electrical resistance is found to be constant over a range of temperatures.
Typical Applications
Manganin foil and wire are used in the manufacture of resistors, particularly ammeter shunts. It is used in gauges to study High-Pressure Shock Waves.
Manganin wire is also used as an electrical conductor in cryogenic systems, minimizing heat transfer between points that need electrical connections.
