Zinc Oxide (ZnO)

Zinc Oxide (ZnO) is a white insoluble inorganic compound. It is relatively soft with high heat capacity, high heat conductivity, low thermal expansion, and a high melting temperature. It occurs naturally as the mineral zincite; however, most zinc oxide is produced synthetically.
Reade sources of Zinc oxide meet USP and FDA requirements and are available for medical, sunscreens, UV-blocking coatings, and ceramic applications. Purities range between 99.0% and 99.999%, including pharmaceutical and advanced ceramic grades.
Typical Applications

Zinc Oxide Powder (ZnO) is used as an additive in numerous materials and products, including cosmetics, medicines, food supplements, rubbers, plastics, ceramics, glass, cement, lubricants, paints, ointments, adhesives, sealants, pigments, foods, batteries, ferrites, fire retardants, and first-aid tapes.

Sustainable Qualities

Zinc Oxide is considered sustainable due to its abundance and recyclability. Zinc is one of the most abundant elements in the Earth’s crust, and Zinc Oxide can be easily extracted and processed from zinc ore. In addition, Zinc Oxide is fully recyclable and can be recovered from various waste streams and reused in new products without losing its properties or functionality. This means Zinc Oxide can be continuously reused and recycled, reducing the need for virgin Zinc Oxide production and minimizing waste generation, making it a highly sustainable material. Furthermore, Zinc Oxide is used in a wide range of applications, including in sunscreens, pigments, and as a catalyst, further contributing to its sustainability and circular economy potential.
