Vanadium(V) Oxide (V₂O₅)

Vanadium(V) oxide (V₂O₅), vanadium pentoxide, is a brown/yellow solid and is an amphoteric oxide and an oxidizing agent. It is the most important vanadium compound, the principal precursor to vanadium alloys, and is a widely used industrial catalyst. Vanadium(V) oxide has some acute toxicity to humans, with a greater hazard from the inhalation of dust.
Typical Applications

Vanadium(V) oxide (V₂O₅) is an oxidation catalyst. It is used in refractories and as a colorant in ceramics. It is used in manufacturing vanadium salts, as a dye, and as the precursor to vanadium alloys. It is widely used as an industrial catalyst and an ethanol sensor in ppm (parts per million) levels. It is also used in vanadium redox batteries, which are used for energy storage in power facilities such as wind farms.
