Titanium Carbide (TiC)

Titanium carbide is an extremely hard, crystalline solid that melts at 3140ºC. It has a gray metallic color and is insoluble in water; but soluble in nitric acid and aqua regia. It enhances the conductivity of materials and can act as a nucleating agent.

Typical Applications

Titanium carbide is used in the manufacture of wear-resistant or cutting tools, either as an additive or as a coating. It is also used in steel bearings, cement, and abrasives. It is also used for metal extrusion in any parts subjected to thermal shock, arc-melting electrodes, cermets, and coating dies. It has applications in optics in its nanoform.
