Saponite Clay Nanoparticles

Saponite clay nanoparticles are nanometer-sized clay particles of minerals of the montmorillonite (smectite) group. Nanoparticles have a high surface area, surface acidity, and cation exchange capacity and swell in water. These characteristics make them very versatile to help improve surface integrity and composites’ mechanical and thermal properties, adjust the consistency of industrial liquid products and serve as vehicles for drug delivery.

Typical Applications

Saponite is used in ink formulation and the production of nanocomposites. Saponite nanoclays are also used in wastewater treatment. Other uses include as an absorbent to purify and decolor liquids, as a filler in paper and rubber, and as a base for cosmetics and medicines.
