Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO)

Micaceous iron oxide is a naturally occurring mineral that is water resistant and forms a protective overlapping plate barrier that prevents corrosion infiltration when applied to metallic surfaces. Flakes formed by micaceous iron oxide are weather-resistant, reflect ultraviolet light, allow water vapor to escape from the substrate, and are chemically resistant. It has been used in corrosion and weather-resistant paint for over 100 years, with the Eiffel Tower being one example of where it has been used.

Typical Lamellar content = >85%

Standard granulation: 63 microns and finer

Iron content (expressed as Fe₂O₃ according to ISO 1248)= > 85%

Typical Applications

Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) is used in manufacturing paint coatings, including protective coatings for bridges, oil rigs, and all types of electrical and industrial equipment where durability and reliability are important.

Packaging Options

Pails, drums, multi-ply paper bags, bulk bags, and fiberboard containers. The status of packaging may vary according to HAZMAT and TSCA (SARA Title III).
