Mica

Reade offers Muscovite Mica mined in the USA. Muscovite Mica is a hydrated silicate of potassium and aluminum, otherwise known as potassium aluminum silicate. KAl₂(AlSi₃O₁₀)(F,OH)₂, or (KF)₂(Al₂O₃)₃(SiO₂)₆(H₂O). It offers flexibility, and toughness, is relatively soft, has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, exceptional electrical properties, and excellent chemical resistance. It can be a reinforcing agent that will impart excellent dimensional stability to molded parts, reduce flammability, and reduce creep.
Typical Applications

Muscovite is in demand for the manufacture of fireproofing and insulating materials and, to some extent, as a lubricant. Muscovite is used as a substitute for glass as it can be cut into very thin transparent sheets for high-temperature applications such as industrial furnaces or oven windows. It is also used in the manufacture of a wide variety of electronics. Other uses include as a filler in paints, plastic, and wallboard, in tire manufacturing as a mold release agent, in drilling mud, and in various cosmetics for its luster.
