Gallium Arsenide (GaAs)

Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) is an intermetallic compound that occurs as cubic crystals with a dark gray metallic sheen. It is among the most widely used intermetallic semiconductor components. Gallium arsenide is electroluminescent in infrared light and is a possible substitute for silicon substrates. It is a direct bandgap semiconductor with the potential for high-speed applications as it can operate at high frequencies (1.9 GHz) using low power consumption with high sensitivity. It is a toxic metal and questionable carcinogen.

Typical Purity: 99.99% up to 99.999%
Typical Applications

Gallium arsenide has semiconductor applications in transistors, solar cells, and lasers. Gallium arsenide is also incorporated into light-emitting diodes and photovoltaic cells.
