Gadolinium zirconate (Gd₂O₇Zr₂) is a ceramic material that is very radiation-resistant. It also has low thermal conductivity and is corrosion-resistant.
Typical Applications

Gadolinium zirconate shows promise for use as a durable storage material for immobilizing plutonium and other actinides. It has possible uses as a thermal barrier coating that offers corrosion resistance. It also has applications to protect aircraft engines from volcano ash.
