Fumed Silica (SiO₂)

Fumed Silica, also known as pyrogenic silica, are powders that are available with either hydrophobic or hydrophilic surfaces. They are made with a flame, resulting in an extremely small particle with a three-dimensional structure with low bulk density and high surface area, making this powder useful as a thickener or reinforcing filler.
Typical Applications

Fumed silica powder is used in laminating and gel coat applications. It is also used in the food industry as a thickening and anticaking agent. It is also used as a desiccant in toothpaste (light abrasive) and cosmetics. Fumed silica also has applications as a filler in paints, printing inks, resins, and adhesives. Various other applications are rheological control, flow agent, thickening agent, reinforcing agent in: adhesives and/or sealants, silicone elastomer, rubber products, suspension, paints, dispersion
