Cordierite (2MgO·2Al₂O₃·5SiO₂)

Cordierite, Magnesium-alumina silicate (2MgO·2Al₂O₃·5SiO₂), is made from talc mixed with clay and aluminum oxide. There are no known large deposits of natural cordierite. It has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, high mechanical strength, low density, and low dielectric loss.
Detailed Particle Size Information

Cordierite Powder Grade K-4948 is available in 1-5 microns

Cordierite Powder HC-11 is available at 6 micron avg.

Typical Chemical Analysis

Cordierite Powder K-4948
Al₂O₃= 34.61%, MgO=11.39%, and SiO₂= 53.8%

Cordierite Powder HC-11
Al₂O₃= 34.78%, MgO= 13.68%, and SiO₂= 49.33%

Typical Applications

Cordierite is used to manufacture kiln furniture, molded honeycomb-like catalyst supports in auto emission reduction devices, thick films, porous ceramics, feed-thru insulators, vitrified ceramics, high-frequency insulators, high-performance resistors, special furnace shapes, heating element supports, exhaust catalyst supports, burner tubes, refractory setters, and substrates.
