Ammonium Persulfate (NH₄)₂S₂O₈

Ammonium persulfate (NH₄)₂S₂O₈ is a white, odorless, crystalline powder that is a powerful oxidizing agent. Ammonium persulfate can be a hazardous material if not handled properly. It can cause skin irritation and eye damage upon contact, and its dust can be explosive when exposed to a spark or flame. Therefore, proper safety measures should always be taken when working with ammonium persulfate.
Typical Applications

Ammonium persulfate is used in the polymer industry as a radical initiator for polymerizing various monomers, such as styrene, acrylates, and vinyl acetate. It can also be used as a bleaching agent for hair dyes and as a polymer stabilizer.
In electronics, it is commonly used as an etchant for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and a cleaning agent for metal surfaces prior to electroplating. It also has uses as a hydraulic fracturing viscosity breaker.
