a) Composed essentially of the mineral massive talc with less than 1.5% each of CaO and Fe2O3 and less than 4% Al2O3. It is naturally occurring and also called soapstone, steatite, and French chalk.

b) Steatite is designated to indicate a purer variety of compact and massive talc while the use of word soapstone is restricted to a slightly impure variety of steatite containing 50 to 80% talc.

c) It comes in brilliant white and off color and is odorless. The value of steatite lies in its extreme softness, smoothness, slippery & lubricating properties, high luster & sheen, chemical inertness, high fusion point, low heat, electrical conductivity and as a pigment extender.

  • Natural Steatite / Soapstone Powder Typical Applications:

Meets certain specs. for ceramic insulator bodies. In lump form it is often referred to as block steatite. Steatite slabs are employed as linings for various kinds of stoves, ovens and fireboxes. Bricks made from crushed steatite, bonded with silicate for soda are used for the manufacture of furnaces in which crude lead bullion is softened before being de-silvered. It is used as a pigment in paints, rubber, soaps, and varnishes. steatite is mainly consumed in paper insecticide, cosmetic, fertilizer and ceramic industry.
