Meets certain specs. for ceramic insulator bodies. In lump form it is often referred to as block steatite. Steatite slabs are employed as linings for various kinds of stoves, ovens and fireboxes. Bricks made from crushed steatite, bonded with silicate for soda are used for the manufacture of furnaces in which crude lead bullion is softened before being de-silvered. It is used as a pigment in paints, rubber, soaps, and varnishes. steatite is mainly consumed in paper insecticide, cosmetic, fertilizer and ceramic industry.
