Maghemite Powder Physical Constants:
Molecular Weight (g/mol.)
Apparent Density (g/cm3)
Boiling Point (°C)
Mohs Hardness @20°C
Maghemite Powder Typical Applications:
It is a ferro magnetic oxide, has a spinel structure and is commonly used in magnetic tape. For example in the magnetic layer of audio tape, floppy disk, digital tape etc. The particles can be magnetised to represent data. MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) also uses iron(III, II) oxide compounds, suspended in an ink which can be read by special scanning hardware.
Maghemite Powder Background Briefing:
Maghemite was named in 1927. It is blue with a grey shade, white, or brown. It has isometric crystals. Maghemite is formed by the topotactic oxidation of magnetite.
