Glass Composition: Soda- lime glass
1) Recycled glass powder is waste glass turned into usable products. Glass waste is separated by chemical composition, and then, depending on the end use and local processing capabilities, might also have to be separated into different colors.
2) A soda- lime glass powder dominates the use of glass in the industrial sector. It has excellent anticorrosion characteristics in the fields of paint and lining. It is also used as a reinforcement for thermoplastics.
- Soda- Lime Glass Media, General Briefing:
1) Soda-lime glass is prepared by melting the raw materials, such as sodium carbonate (soda), lime, dolomite, silicon dioxide (silica), aluminium oxide (alumina), and small quantities of fining agents (e.g., sodium sulfate, sodium chloride) in a glass furnace at temperatures locally up to 1675°C. The temperature is only limited by the quality of the furnace superstructure material and by the glass composition. Green and brown bottles are obtained from raw materials containing iron oxide. Relatively inexpensive minerals such as trona, sand, and feldspar are used instead of pure chemicals. The mix of raw materials is termed batch.
2) Soda-lime glass is divided technically into glass used for windows, called float glass or flat glass, and glass for containers, called container glass. Both types differ in the application, production method (float process for windows, blowing and pressing for containers), and chemical composition (see table below). Float glass has a higher magnesium oxide and sodium oxide content as compared to container glass, and a lower silica, calcium oxide, and aluminium oxide content. From this follows a slightly higher quality of container glass concerning the chemical durability against water, which is required especially for storage of beverages and food.

1) The recycled glass powder filler can be used with a variety of different thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics commonly used in injection molding and blow molding of plastic parts
2) It has been found that injection molded glass filled plastic parts show excellent heat resistance compared to unfilled parts. The glass filled plastic parts also show good particle distribution, flex modulus, and abrasion resistance, lower thermal conductivity, improved toughness, durability, and creep resistance. The amount of glass powder filler in the plastic part can be tailored to provide the desired mechanical.
3) Comminuted recycled glass powder can be added to plastic resin in injection molding applications in concentrations ranging from about 5% to more than 80% by weight, and preferably from 5% to 45% by weight. Because comminuted recycled glass powder costs substantially less than the cost of the raw resin used to manufacture plastic parts, the glass functions as a useful low-cost filler.
4) A reinforcement for thermoplastics to reduce warpage, give high weld strength and impact strength, and to improve dimensional stability without discoloration. - Glass Powder Media, Recycled To Military Specification:
1) Recycled glass blasting media has been successfully substituted for silica sand and other blasting media in shipyard trials and in other construction projects and equipment cleaning under MIL-A-22262B(SH), Amendment-2.
2) Crushed glass competes with common abrasive alternatives as well as niche materials such as plastic pellets used on sensitive surfaces.
3) Glass can be used as a dry blasting media or combined with water for use in slurry blasting.
